[Philanthropy Learning Forum Goes to Campus] Enhancing the Spirit of Philanthropy in Millennial Generation
A series of pre-event activities of FIFest 2018, including Philanthropy Learning Forum Goes to Campus has been conducted every week in last October. Philanthropy Learning Forum Goes to Campus is a visitation program to several universities that are chosen by Filantropi. The goal of the event is to introduce philanthropy to young people so that they can be involved and help to develop the philanthropy sector which then can be implemented in their innovative activities. The universities we have visited are Paramadina University, Tanri Abeng University, University of Indonesia, UNIKA Atmajaya University, and UIN Syarif Hidayatullah University.
The main topic in the discussion in Philanthropy Learning Forum Goes to Campus is Millennial Philanthropy: Sharing in CollaborAction where we discussed how we can involve young people who are the main resources to run a philanthropy program in a various form of activities. This visitation activity also presented various speakers from various philanthropy institutions such as JAPFA Foundation, Coca Cola Foundation, LAZISMU, Rumah Faye, and Mien R. Uno Foundation. Moreover, the academics from each university who also were speakers in the discussion is in charge of connecting the education side to philanthropy and to urge all the students to participate and become a pioneer of youth philanthropy.
Various issues are discussed in the session such as entrepreneur, social enterprise, child protection, environment and other social problems that arises in the community which can be classified as a concern that need to be followed up or resolve right away. All the obstacles found can be an inspiration for the social movement where young people can participate as an initiator in the movement. The speakers motivated the students and also reminded them that philanthropy action is not always about material and not limited to only adults.
Therefore, with the positive activity such as Philanthropy Learning Forum Goes to Campus hopefully will increase their knowledge and also inspire millennials to realize their pilot project for those who plan on doing a social activity either individual or organization project. This event also was able to linked the student with the non-profit organization. The enthusiasm and appreciation came from the student about the Philanthropy Goes to Campus drive us to hopefully continue this event to more universities in the future.
