On April 10th 2018, Filantropi Indonesia collaborated with Binus International University to organize a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) as an early stage of establishment the new cluster in Filantropi which is environment and conservation. The discussion aims to mapping issues and collect opinion & suggestions from organization members as well as partner of Filantropi Indonesia who work specifically on environment issue. There were fifteen (15) members of Filantropi Indonesia participated in this discussion such as The Nature Conservation (TNC), KEHATI, Adaro Bangun Negeri Foundation, Buddha Tzu Chi Foundation, Unilever Indonesia Foundation, Belantara Foundation, and BAZNAS.

The establishment of Filantropi’ environment and conservation cluster involved several stakeholders such as the government, Civil Society Organization (CSO), academics, and non-profit institution. Hopefully, all sectors can collaborate and integrate in accordance with the SDGs principal and with inclusive approach. In the future, this cluster will not only focus on one specific issue, for example, forestry. But also, will delve to other issue that are relevant to the current situation, for example the oil spillage and agriculture issues, water and sanitation, habitation and urban areas, sustainable consumption, climate change, marine ecosystems and terrestrial ecosystems.

Before the FGD, Filantropi Indonesia has conducted an online survey towards members and partners of Filantropi Indonesia for two weeks. The survey aims to find out basic knowledge (baseline assessment) from each member and their scope. Therefore, this cluster can decide the right approach to give help, collaboration mechanism, and coordination system. 

The discussion is succeeding on formulating the next work step for the development of environment and conservation cluster. The discussion managed to formulate the form of cluster, the choice of issues, philanthropy mechanism with effective communication strategy, follow up plan with the community, as well as the alignment with the program runs by the government.
