First anniversary of Communication Forum Philanthropy and Business Indonesia for SDGs
On Thursday 9th of March 2017, at Indofood Tower, 10 associations and member organizations of the Philanthropy and Business Communication Forum Indonesia for SDGs (FBI 4 SDGs) celebrated the one-year anniversary of this Forum. It was a coordination meeting with BAPPENAS that would eventually become the beginning of FBI 4 SDGs. The forum was initiated by four organizations: Indonesia Philanthropy Association, Indonesia Chamber of Commerce, IGCN, and IBCSD. Over the last year, the forum has grown and now consists of 10 organizations and associations in the philanthropy and business sectors.
Mr Franky Welirang, the Co-Chair of Indonesia Philanthropy Association Advisory Board, opened the celebration with a congratulatory speech. Mr. Gellwynn Jusuf, Deputy Minister of National Development Planning Agency Maritime Affairs and Natural Resources Division, followed with the latest developments regarding SDG regulation in the government sphere and encouraged the forum to continue engaging government actively and increasing the capacity of its members. Mr. Gellwynn also reminded the role of forum members in the writing of Indonesia's Voluntary National Review (VNR) which will be presented at the United Nations High Level Political Forum in July.
Mr. Timotheus Lesmana, Chairman of FBI 4 SDGs, continued sharing some updates related to the achievements of the forum since its inception and future plans. Mr. Lesmana said that each working group (SDG & best practice tools, deepening engagement, MDGs to SDGs, advocacy and regulation, localization, awareness and socialization) had started with their respective tasks. Reports from each working group were also briefly shared by their respective representatives. Mrs. Erna Witoelar spoke next, emphasising the importance of SDGs localization and effective partnership with local governments.
The celebration event was concluded with the cutting of the first birthday cake, a group photo and lunch. Mr. Lesmana said that FBI 4 SDGs would not add more members despite the high level of interest shown by many businesses to join, instead focusing on the performance of each task force that has been formed and the writing of the VNR. The forum will also begin a draft National Action Plan for Philanthropy and Business-related SDGs at the end of March.
