Student Internship Program Filantropi Indonesia in collaboration with Standford University
The WSD Handa Center for Human Rights and International Justice at Stanford University seeks to prepare its students for lifetimes of working to promote human rights and dignity for all. In pursuit of this mission, each summer the Handa Center selects Human Rights Fellows to work with and learn from organizations aligned with their goals for creating meaningful change in the world.
This summer, Filantropi Indonesia is excited to host Ayushi Vig as a Human Rights Fellow. Ayushi graduated from Stanford in June 2018 with a B.A. in International Relations and Psychology. Through her past academic and professional experiences, she has sought to understand how the role of philanthropy in global development can be improved to center and uplift local communities. Her past work has included conducting research on foundations’ bottom-up organizational learning practices and on the effects of social identity on philanthropic practice, as well as supporting the community-led design of an impact investment fund. Having previously worked in Jogjakarta through the Volunteers in Asia program, she is excited to return to a country and culture close to her heart and explore a new part of Indonesia!
During her fellowship, Ayushi hopes to learn about the opportunities and challenges facing the emergence of Indonesia’s organized philanthropic sector. She will be working with the Partnerships and Membership Division to identify and correspond with potential partners, and assisting in organizing events, workshops, and trainings for stakeholders. She will also be conducting research on a human rights approach to Indonesian philanthropy. This approach is based on a premise that in order to achieve sustainable development, solutions must ensure human rights for all, supporting people’s rights to democratic process, equality and equity, and self-determination. This approach is well-aligned with Filantropi Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening accountability and transparency in Indonesia’s philanthropic sector.
