Embracing the Future of Philanthropy: Reflections on the Sustainable Program Workshop

Jakarta, December 18-19, 2024 —The Indonesian Philanthropy Association (PFI), in collaboration with the Tanoto Foundation and Dampak Sosial Indonesia, successfully held a workshop titled “Designing Effective and Sustainable Programs for Nonprofits/Philanthropy Organizations.” The event was attended by 10 philanthropic organizations and 17 participants. Held at the Aryaduta Menteng Hotel, the workshop aimed to enhance the capacity of philanthropic organizations in designing, managing, and evaluating sustainable programs.

The workshop began with a session with Introduction to Sustainability in Philanthropy to Sustainability in Philanthropy session, which all participants were guided to understand the importance of a systemic approach in designing programs with broad and sustainable impact. This session emphasized that philanthropic organizations play a crucial role as drivers of social change, particularly in the education sector.

The workshop highlight various topics such as Logical Framework Analysis (LFA), setting objectives and success indicators, and designing program intervention strategies. Participants learned how to identify relevant needs and stakeholders and develop effective collaboration strategies. Emphasizing on the program impact measurement, which serves as a benchmark for the success and sustainability of social interventions.

The workshop also discussed how to build strategic partnerships between philanthropic organizations and the government. In the session on Collaboration and Partnerships, participants explored the potential for synergy with various parties to strengthen program implementation.

Lastly, as part of the program evaluation, participants provided positive feedback on the workshop content. They appreciated the practical approach applied, such as hands-on exercises and reflection sessions that helped deepen their understanding of the concepts. One of the participant mentioned, “This training is highly inspiring and provides numerous best practices and tools that can be immediately implemented.” However, some participants hoped that the workshop duration could be extended to allow for more in-depth practice.

This workshop inspired and provided new insights for participants in managing social programs. They felt more prepared to design programs, manage stakeholders, conduct monitoring and evaluation, and measure impact. It is hoped that the knowledge gained can be implemented to strengthen the sustainability of programs run by each organization.

The workshop Designing Effective and Sustainable Programs for Nonprofits/Philanthropy Organizations was an important milestone for the philanthropic community in Indonesia. Through collaboration and capacity building, it is hoped that philanthropic organizations can deliver programs that are more effective, relevant, and impactful for the community. With this step, the future of philanthropy in Indonesia looks even brighter.
