Yayasan Humanis dan Inovasi Sosial (HSI Foundation) is an Indonesian organization born out of an active collaboration between Netherlands-based Hivos and several like-minded Indonesian academics and civil society leaders. The agenda for such collaboration was set in Hivos’s desire to phase out its direct presence in Southeast Asia by promoting sincere decentralization and local ownership. As the name itself suggests, the purpose underpinning the establishment of the new entity is to promote humanistic values in the social, health, and cultural fields, which is defined in terms of the ability of each individual to assess and decide independently and responsibly, the right to freedom, dignity and a passion for creating a just and tolerant society.
